‘Nine Chapters of the Rain’
A contemporary music concert by the Hanoi New Music Ensemble featuring works by well-known international and Vietnamese composers.
Founded in 2015 by composer Vu Nhat Tan, violinist Pham Truong Son and American conductor Jeff von der Schmidt, the Hanoi New Music Ensemble (HNME) – the first contemporary and independent chamber orchestra in Vietnam aims to bring Vietnamese and international contemporary music to local audience of Vietnam and bring Vietnamese contemporary music to the world.
Participating musicians of HNME in the concert are some of the finest classical musicians of Vietnam such as Pham Truong Son – Violin 1, Pham Mai Anh – Violin 2, Nguyen Trong Bang – Flute, Tran Thu Thuy – Viola, Nguyen Quoc Bao – Clarinet, Dao Tuyet Trinh – Cello, Pham Quynh Trang – Piano…

Hanoi New Music Ensemble HNME is the first contemporary and independent chamber orchestra in Vietnam under the management of a board including composer Vu Nhat Tan, composer Tran Kim Ngoc, violinist Pham Truong Son, clarinettist Nguyen Quoc Bao and the HNME’s Amercan artistic advisors, Jan Karlin and conductor Jeff von der Schmidt, directors of the Los Angeles International New Music Festival, held at the REDCAT Theater in Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Grammy Award winning ensemble Southwest Chamber Music
With specific criteria developed to explore the repertoire of new music, the HNME will introduce the contemporary music of the world while especially promoting the contemporary compositions of Vietnamese composers. The Hanoi New Music Ensemble is gradually, but fully determined, to build an unique language and style into the music scenes of Vietnam and the world.
